Hello NvAND members and Nevada Registered Dietitians!

This is your Public Policy Coordinator Kristina LaBouff, RD, LD, CNSC! As I’m sure most of you have heard SB95 has passed which allows hospitals to grant clinical privileges to a  licensed dietitian for the purpose of ordering special diets, laboratory tests, and to modify special diets or other dietary plans based on those lab tests. Based on discussions with expert dietitians with knowledge about this process most facilities, to achieve order writing privileges, will implement some kind of protocol or procedure that is approved by their Medical Executive Committee. Per CMS Final Rule Registered Dietitians may also become part of the facilities Medical Staff.

We have developed this resource page as a tool for you all as we start the process of implementation of the new language. This resource page will be periodically updated with information, tools, and announcements as myself and the organization become more familiar with the process of implementation. My goal is to soon have available sample protocols/procedures to help guide you with creating your own that works best for your facility. If you have resources to share that you think would be helpful to others please send them my way!

Please feel free to contact me for any questions or concerns. I look forward to the following year as PPC, and to a smooth and successful implementation of RD order writing privileges in Nevada.

Thank you!
Kristina LaBouff, RD, LD, CNSC
Public Policy Coordinator, NvAND
