'Making a Difference' Member Spotlight Recap

NvAND strived to make a difference in the 2020-2021 year. During this time, we were able to spotlight 13 members who truly make a difference to their clients, co-workers, interns, community, and state. 

Here is a recap of the 13 members spotlighted during the last year: 

• Katie Spada, RD, LD  After walking through her own “food freedom journey”, Katie founded Spada Strong Nutrition LLC to assist athletes with similar struggles.
• Christina Saheb, RDN, LD and Lory Hayon RDN, LD When Clark County schools closed and COVID guidelines for social distancing were released, these two brainstormed on the best ways to follow these new guidelines while still feeding nutrient dense foods to those in need.
• Nicole Bustamante, RDN, LD  is the clinical nutrition manager of Renown Health, a large hospital in Reno, and has been very focused on understanding and working to implement order writing privileges at her facility.
• Roxana Ehsani, MS, RD, CSSD, LDN  serves as an Academy Spokesperson and  has experience in TV media and tends to gravitate towards those roles with the goal to represent the Academy and dietitians especially in a world full of misinformation from non-professionals. 
• Lauri Egan, RDN, CPE is a key player in our state affiliate's organizational setup, structure and maintenance and is an invaluable resource to board members. 

• Aurora Buffington, PhD, RDN, LD, FAND is a NvAND member and dietitian who was recognized as a fellow by the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
• Wade Warren was a student at UNLV who was able to step up to the role on President of the Student Nutrition and Dietetic Association even through the daunting pandemic to keep the organization running.
• Mandisha Waiters, RD, LDN was nominated due to her efforts in getting SB95 passed which allowed order writing privileges for RDs in the state of Nevada along with her big heart for the Las Vegas community.
• Allison Schnitzer, RD makes a difference as an RD because she works closely with the community and tackles big issues happening in the community.
• Debbie Klein, RD, LD was nominated for her nurturing nature to new RDs and assisting interns with entry into the field, her obvious love for her complex career in the ICU, and for being a great example of daily passion for her job.
• Sally Saban, MS, RD, LD has been a preceptor for the past 14 years and has precepted and mentored almost 65 dietetic interns! Sally was awarded the Outstanding Preceptor Award from the Academy.
  
• Wendy Corkum recently graduated from UNR and was awarded the Outstanding Dietetic Student Award from NvAND for her academic achievement, dedication to learning, and professional potential.
